- Pierre Curie -
- Pierre Curie was born Paris, France on the 28th of August, 1827. Showing great promise in the fields of math, he earned his math degree by the time he was 16. At the young age of 18 he had already achieved a great success towards a higher degree, but did not pursue a doctorate immediately due to lack of funds. In 1880, Pierre and his brother Jacques had discovered piezoelectricity, leading to their invention of the Piezoelectric Quartz Electrometer. With this, they could showcase that when crystals were compressed, they generated electric potential, and could demonstrate the reverse effects.
- Pierre met Maria Skłodowska through a mutual friend, both Maria and Pierre were devoted to their respected fields. Although she initially refused to Pierre's proposal for marriage, she later agreed and the two were later married on the 26th of July, 1895. The two would later have two children, Irène Joliot-Curie (who herself became a scientist and later winning a Nobel Prize), and Ève Denise Curie Labouisse.
- Pierre had formulated the Curie Dissymmetry Principle, had isolated polonium and radium alongside his wife, Marie, as well as a fellow pioneer in the study of the radioactivity. Pierre and a student of his had first discovered nuclear energy through continuous emission of heat from radium particles. In 1903, he received a Nobel Prize in physics alongside his wife Marie.
